Burtle Harvest Prom Concert
It was with some trepidation the Harvest Home Committee booked the Worlewind Band for Saturday 17th October 2015 as this band comprised 55 plus members all enthusiasts of the Big Band genre!! Would Burtle be put on the map for the loudest village concert of all time, would we have to inform all the villages roundabout of the event encouraging them to close their windows, lock the doors and keep all pets inside? The answer was a resounding NO!! It was the most wonderful night, with an audience of just over 100, village hall bar and ticket price to include pork with stuffing and apple sauce rolls.
The music was carefully chosen to include a diverse mixture of Miss Saigon, Take the A Train and Copacabana finishing with a round of Jerusalem and Pomp and Circumstance. The Hall decoration was suitably patriotic with a net of balloons released on the final song, lighting reflecting the mood and even a Britannia dressed for the occasion. Huge thanks go to the Band who performed brilliantly, Chris Mockridge for the lighting and sound and all the willing volunteers who helped with extending the stage, hall decoration, raffle, flag waving and singing and final clearing up.
Thanks also to Heather Lee, Lisa Porter and Jenny Jones who tried to be quiet in the kitchen when the softer music was played but who had to prepare for the onslaught of all for the pork rolls in the interval!
Thank you Worlewind you made a wonderful Burtle evening just brilliant All profits made will be for the 2016 Harvest Home on Saturday August 6th.
