Avalon Marshes – Landscape, Heritage and Wildlife – 4 June

The Avalon Marshes is a magical landscape, full of wildlife and history. It’s a great place to explore, and home to some of Britain’s best wetland nature reserves, fascinating ancient trackways and Iron Age lake villages. It is a peaceful place of serene beauty with wide skies and wonderful views.

 

This day-long event at Strode Theatre is a celebration of this unique area. It will include talks, films and presentations by experts including local wildlife writer and TV producer Stephen Moss, wetland archaeologist Dr Richard Brunning, Glastonbury Abbey archaeologist John Allan, and naturalist and broadcaster Chris Sperring MBE.

 

We will also be showing the classic BBC film of Sir John Betjeman journey through the Avalon Marshes on the much loved Somerset & Dorset Railway in the 1960’s.

 

Tickets are £12.00 Full and Concessions £10.00

Ticket price is for lunch and refreshments.

The event is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

This will be followed by the Avalon Marshes Open Day on Sunday June 5 when everyone is encouraged to explore the area and see what has been achieved.
